Rattlesnake: Chicken of the Desert?
posted 2010 Aug by Merle Snook
Are you wary of rattlesnakes? I hope your answer is yesseree bob I am. Good answer because you should be. Rattlesnakes are dangerous. Their bite can be deadly and even if you're fortunate, it could amount to an extremely painful stay in the hospital. If you hear the distinctive rattle, beat a haasssssty retreat. In the wild they deserve a wide detour.
For centuries Native Americans decorated their most prized pieces and clothing with this unique skin and today that tradition continues with their hides being turned into distinctive products like wallets and other accessories.
How 'bout at the dinner table. Now wait a minute, what's a rattlesnake doing on my dinner table you ask? Well, it may very well be tickling your tassste buds, that's what. Properly prepared (by that I mean cooked, not eaten raw as that can be dangerous too) rattlesnake is a fine delicacy if you have a taste for exotic foods. Rattlesnake chili is a must try for those of you with an open mind and an adventurous bent. In the southwest US especially, recipes abound from tasty rattlesnake tacos, yummy, to salads with this delicacy instead of ham, chicken or turkey slices. No more "same old" cuisine for me. How 'bout you? Come on now it won't bite you but now you can bite it and do it with a smile.
And as for that myth you've heard over and over, sorry but ony chicken tastes like chicken and that's the way it should be. Wouldn't it be boring if every food tasted like chicken. See www.hideoutflorida.com
